The Blob's back!
Oh how 1958’s “The Blob” made me laugh. It was part of that notable breed of 50’s sci-fi / horror that so was incredibly crap it was actually really good (if you know what I mean) A young Steve McQueen in his first major starring role did battle with the huge ponderous mass of flesh eating alien jelly as it merrily terrorizes a small and dusty American town (weren’t they always?) 1972’s “Beware the Blob” and another rehash in 1988 saw the big stinking pile of anti social gelatin return in a speedier but still extremely laughable form.
Hurray for progress, because we’re back with a new Blob and this time the comedy angle is wholly intentional. Writer Chad Hayes (The Reaping, House of wax) along with brother Carey have got the new and improved Blob ready to roll (or slither) and are putting it firmly in the “Sean of the dead” “Tremors” school of horror/comedy. The environmental angle is also being played upon with the catchy acronym of Biologically Lethal Organic Bomb.
You can’t beat a good belly laugh on a Monday morning!
