24 Hour Film Challenge Judges



The last challenge had a very high standard of entry. We were bowled over by it. So judging is hard. We have some interesting people considering judging the event this time around and they will be added as they confirm. In the meantime some familiar faces had so much fun last time they are coming back for more. Judges confirmed so far are;

Al Clark & Rachel Robey, Directors, Wellington Films

Al and Rachel are the co-founders of Wellington Films, a production company whose BAFTA nominated debut feature film, London to Brighton by Paul Andrew Williams, premiered at the 2006 Edinburgh International Film Festival where it won the Skillset New Director’s Award. It went on to win the Hitchcock D’Or at Dinard, Best UK Feature at Raindance, Best Film at Seagate Foyle and Best Achievement in Production at the British Independent Film Awards, as well as being nominated for numerous other awards. Al and Rachel’s current production is Better Things, the debut feature film by Duane Hopkins. It was the winner of the MEDIA New Talent Prize for screenwriting during Cannes 2004.


Phil Nodding, Writer, Black Owl Productions

Phil originally worked as a journalist then as a regional film commissioner before becoming a full time writer. He's written for both series 2 and 3 of 'Shameless', and an episode of ‘The Chase’. He is currently developing an original drama with the BBC as well as his first feature. He won the RTS Midlands New Talent Award in 2006 for his first episode of Shameless. Phil has worked with BritFilms before, overseeing production of six successful short films called ‘Three Minute Warnings’.



 

 

Sean Hewitt - Film Critic for the Nottingham Evening Post 

Sean Hewitt has worked as a journalist in the East Midlands since 1979. He is currently a sub-editor at the Nottingham Evening Post, princpally working for the EG entertainments supplement, for which he also writes on film.

 

 

 

 

 

 Ian Sadler - Sales Director Eureka Entertainment Ltd

Ian is the Sales Director at Eureka Entertainment Limited.  Eureka holds a number of key franchises including the internationally renowned “Masters of Cinema” range, “The Brittas Empire” and “Mitchell and Webb”.   Eureka is a completely independent label and, as such, has trading relationships with a wide variety of international licensors, The BBC and Fremantle.  Eureka also has a theatrical arm and has released an eclectic mix of titles including “Junebug”, the “Heart of the Game” and “Metropolis” to name but a few. So you could say, when it comes to understanding a quality film, Ian knows his onions.

 

Johnnie Oddball – The Godfather of Short Film Challenges

Johnnie entered the film industry as a lighting technician and gained experience and contacts by working his way up. He created the 48 hour film challenge in London in 2000. He then went on to create one of the biggest film making events in British history in 2003 with his national 48 hour film challenge – set in London, Bristol, Manchester and Scotland – where over 10,000 people participated and 488 short FILMS were made. In 2004 he produced another four film making events around Europe which included London, Berlin, Paris and Bulgaria, and the first 24 hour film challenge at Cannes in 2005. Johnnie also has three feature films to his credits inc THE DARK HUNTER a spinal tap meets Blair witch comedy about two wannabe directors making a documentary which goes wrong from the offset the movie was made for almost nothing and was sold to a Canadian distributor and is now for sale on play.com and can be found on IMDB , he was awarded "Film Person of the Year 2003".by Fringe Report which is an on line theater/film review site ,for his 48 hour film challenge event which inspired 1000s of talent film makers to just pick up a camera and make a movie in 48hrs,
Johnnie is currently working as Director & Producer for a new Student TV station called UNI BOX TV which launches later on this year across the whole of the UK , he is at the moment Producing a selection of TV shows for the network which covers almost every UNI across the UK , Johnnie said to us he will be looking for people from this years challenge to work on some of his productions in 2008/09, Johnnie is also writing a road trip style movie based in Germany at the moment which he wants to Direct into a movie in 2009 ,

Johnnie oddball's advice is simple ....
