Ridley Scott talks ‘Monopoly’ adaptation!

Hell fire, and there was me thinking this might have disappeared down the shoot leading to a skip marked terminally bad idea! A film based on a famous board game that typically lasts for several lifetimes really doesn’t suggest much in the way of an interesting film so just what is our man Scott planning?
Ridley Scott is obviously keen to start moving the pieces on this one and even though he’s keeping his plan pretty close to his chest, he did have this to say…
“We have identified a pretty good story and it is fundamentally a movie, not a game, probably describing in a way the characters in the film, the passion of the game, and how the game came about.”
Ok, that can be pretty much interpreted in any number of ways can’t it?
Brian Goldner, the head of Hasbro games also spilt a few select beans about the film saying… “Pamela Pettler who’s writing this great script about real people kind of playing a real-life game of ‘Monopoly,’ not the board game, although they’re icons of the game.” He also revealed that Scott would be building “great worlds of imagination” and along with Pettler’s script, we’d have something that “make’s sense right now”.
Something to do with the present precarious state of the world’s economy perhaps? The real movers and shakers manipulating property and people like your game pieces?
I’m getting a migraine trying to brain storm Scott’s angle of attack for this so I think I’ll throttle back on the conjecture and see what comes of it all.
