A very professionally made look at a bleak, seagull dominated Southampton of the future is this weeks short and it’s called ‘Bird Feeder’.
The city is in its death throws. Suicide is the norm. Nobody is happy and everyone is turning into fish. They are food to the monstrous seagulls that dominate everything, from the festering garbage hulks on the river to the buildings of the once proud city. Witness to a beautiful act of rebellion, an ordinary man realises he must take action – he’s fallen in love and there are NOT plenty more fish in the sea!
‘Bird Feeder’ was commissioned by Screen South as part of the Film Council’s regional Digital Shorts scheme and Jo Barnes has made a superb almost Lynch-esque film out of Ben Pester’s fascinating script. The short utilises a mix of matte paintings and CGI along with the live action to produce a striking, unforgettable experience.
